About the event

Event Details
Join us for a remarkable afternoon as we commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery march through the eyes of the U.S. Catholic sisters who answered the call for justice.
At the heart of this special event is a distinguished panel featuring sisters who walked in Selma, including Sisters Barbara Moore and Rosemary Flanigan, CSJ, and Sister Barbara Lum, SSJ, alongside "Sisters of Selma" filmmaker Jayasri (Joyce) Hart. Adding a unique perspective is Claire Hundelt, whose father, Charles Vatterot, played an instrumental role in enabling the sisters' historic journey to Selma.
This powerful panel discussion, beginning at 2:00 PM, brings together voices that shaped a pivotal moment in civil rights history, when American nuns defied authority to march for voting rights. Their courage and dedication to "the dear neighbor" continue to inspire social justice work today.
For those interested in the complete experience, arrive early for the documentary screening at 12:30 p.m. and stay after for a reception from 3:30-4:30 p.m. celebrating these remarkable women and their enduring legacy.
The event is sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet St. Louis Province and the CSJ Consolidated Archives.
