2025 Lwanga Center logo_wo background_ed

The St. Charles Lwanga Center, established in 1978 and originally located in north St. Louis, serves as the Archdiocese of St. Louis's primary center for Black Catholic spirituality, culture, and leadership formation. Founded by Fr. Ed. Feuerbacher and local lay Catholics in response to the need for a dedicated ministry to support and evangelize the African American Catholic community, the Center provides opportunities for spiritual growth, leadership development, and faith formation. Through youth and young adult ministries, retreats, and community-wide Pentecost revivals, the St. Charles Lwanga Center carries out its mission in accordance with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the tradition of the Roman Catholic Church.

Cheryl Archibald

Welcome

Cheryl Archibald is the new Director of the Archdiocese of St. Louis' St. Charles Lwanga Center, following her position as Parish Life Coordinator at St. Pius V and St. Vincent de Paul parishes — a role she began in July 2018 as the first layperson in the Archdiocese to hold that position. Her ministry roots trace back to years as a youth minister at St. Nicholas Parish and decades mentoring teen mothers toward college, careers, and stability. Before entering pastoral work, she spent 31 years in federal Program Management and Systems Engineering, later earning a Master's in Pastoral Studies from Aquinas Institute of Theology. She serves on the boards of St. Francis Community Services, the Association of the Miraculous Medal, and Nazareth Living Center, and has chaired Catholic Charities' Board of Directors. Cheryl lives in Saint Louis with her husband, John, their two adult children, one grandchild, and an ever-expanding roster of adopted family.

We are so blessed to have her leading our ministry.
