Black Catholics
Footsteps to Sainthood

CatholicTV to air a six-part, monthly documentary series chronicling the lives of six African Americans with open causes for sainthood.
Black Catholics: Footsteps to Sainthood is a six-part original documentary series from the CatholicTV Network that premieres on November 2, 2026 to align with Black Catholic History Month. Hosted by author and Emmy-nominated producer Dr. Ansel Augustine and directed by Richard Brown, the half-hour episodes chronicle the lives, faith, and enduring legacies of six African Americans with open causes for sainthood in the United States. The series covers four Venerables and two Servants of God: Father Augustus Tolton, Mother Henriette Delille, Mother Mary Elizabeth Lange, Pierre Toussaint, Sister Thea Bowman, and Julia Greeley. Its debut episode highlights the journey of Father Tolton—the first publicly recognized Black Catholic priest in the U.S.—utilizing an innovative blend of live-action performance and artificial intelligence to bring his story to life.
The series will run for a total of six months, releasing one new episode each month.
Because it is a six-part monthly documentary miniseries, the schedule unfolds as follows:
Total Run Time: It spans from its premiere on November 2, 2026 through April 2027.
Broadcast Format: Each monthly episode is a half-hour documentary focusing on one specific candidate for sainthood.
Encore Presentations: During the week an episode premieres, CatholicTV airs repeat broadcasts on Wednesdays (8:00 AM & 4:30 PM ET), Fridays (3:30 PM ET), and Saturdays (3:30 AM ET). Episodes are also available on-demand via the CatholicTV
